Emotional and psychological trauma results from an extremely stressful event that causes emotional or psychological disability in daily functioning. This may include events such being physically assaulted, witnessing a physical assault, emotional or verbal abuse, a life-threatening medical condition, or experiencing an act of terror, torture, murder, or a natural disaster.
